Port Olympic

Barcelona Port

The old Port of Barcelona. In Medieval times there was a lot of movement in this port. Imagine: Barcelona was part of the Crown of Aragon and the territories of Corsega, Cerdeña and Napoles were part of this Crown. There were commercial relations with all these places, cultural exchange, information transmission. Those were good times for the city! It was already a cosmopolitan city.

Ciutat Vella

Cristopher Columbus statue

He discovered America by mistake, he thought he was going to India and he went all the way around; the fun thing of the story is that he went there four times in his life without knowing that he discovered a new continent…For many years native americans were called indians!

Montjuïc Hill

Montjuïc Castle

Although its use as a military prison declined, the castle retained this function until 1960, when it was partially ceded to the city during a visit by General Franco to Barcelona.

The board was obliged to install a military museum, which would be financed by the City Council.

Montjuïc Hill

Pavellón Mies Van der Rohe.

This building is a reconstruction. It was the German pavilion during the expo in 1929. It was constructed by Mies van der Rohe. It’s an important building because it’s considered the beginning of modern architecture. It’s been studied and interpreted by many architects. This fair contributed to the urban development,  to get in touch with the new architectural styles created at the beginning of the XXth Century: the avant-gardes specially rationalism. Barcelona is a very safe city for cyclists of all ages and abilities. The established routes have been planned with safety in mind and are either equipped with cycle-lanes or have been fully pedestrianised. What is more, almost all crossings will take place at traffic lights and our guides know all the safest routes. However, as always, you will need to use your common sense and pay attention to the vehicles around you.

You don’t need to bring much with you to be able to enjoy a bike tour around this vibrant, unique city. Come with clothing and footwear that is appropriate for safely riding a bike. In the summer, you should consider bringing a hat and sunglasses, while in the winter there can be a chill wind, so it is best to bring a jacket or a spare jumper. And as with all bikes, there’s always a risk of oil – so avoid wearing your best whites! During the hottest months, you should also keep sun-cream and an extra bottle of water with you at all times.

The tour will last approximately 3 hours (1100-1400). However, this can vary according to start time, group size, and the ever-present risk of flat tyres. We therefore give ourselves a grace period of about half an hour. Except in rare circumstances, tours are almost always finished by about 1430. If you have other commitments before this time, please let your guide know so that they can make any necessary changes to the itinerary.
